Choice Aged Care and Modeus have established a broad-ranging service partnership, designed to deliver a genuine solution to some of the key pain points experienced by aged care providers.  The partnership will support the sector in relieving the medication management legislative burden around Controlled Drugs (Schedule 8 (S8) and ensuing workload on staff.

Choice Aged Care (CAC) is a clinical pharmacist RMMR/QUM service provider with a government-funded contract to 445 RACFs, operating in every State and Territory.  Modeus are the developers of DiamondCare – an electronic (paperless) controlled drug register. Read more about DiamondCare here…

Commenting on the partnership, Choice Aged Care’s CEO Michael Bonner said, “Our partnership with Modeus forms an important component of the digital medication management ecosystem we are establishing to support medication safety.  As we prepare our transition to the aged care onsite pharmacist service model, these interconnections and the multi-system data interoperability will place our pharmacists at the forefront of the facility’s delivery of quality clinical care”.

“The partnership specifically enables our pharmacists to deliver new and high-level opioid/psychotropic stewardship interventions.  These interventions will drive continuous improvement in areas around staff workflows and compliance relating to opioids & Controlled Drugs and optimising the safe, effective, judicious and appropriate use of opioids for our residents”, Mr Bonner added.

The partnership will reflect a major improvement in the way Dangerous Drugs are managed for the 41,000 residents under CAC’s medication safety stewardship.

Modeus CEO Carl Zufi commented, “We are thrilled to partner with Choice Aged Care to provide DiamondCare, our electronic controlled drug management platform. Choice Aged Care’s vast range of service offerings as well as their extensive relationships with many of Australia’s best providers means we will be able to rapidly deliver a world-class controlled drug solution to the market.

“In the post, Royal Commission landscape, Choice Aged Care and Modeus are leading the way in implementing data-interoperability to promote safety and quality in aged care”, Mr Zufi added.

The partnership was announced earlier this week at the Aged Care Quality, Safety & Risk Forum in Sydney.
