COTA Australia has appointed the Hon Christopher Pyne as its new independent chair, succeeding Jane Halton AO PSM.

Pyne, a former Federal Minister with experience in health and ageing portfolios, brings extensive expertise in public welfare, including roles with Vision 2020 Australia and the Orygen Institute.

In a statement, COTA Australia CEO Patricia Sparrow anticipates Pyne’s leadership will advance the organisation’s mission to advocate for older Australians, citing his alignment with their goals.

Ms Sparrow thanked outgoing chair Jane Halton for her invaluable contributions.

“Jane Halton has been an incredible asset to our organisation. Her extensive knowledge and wealth of experience has been a driving force behind COTA’s advocacy success. Jane Halton has been, and will no doubt continue to be, an incredible advocate for older Australians. We extend our heartfelt thanks for her incredible service.”

Mr Pyne aims to harness the potential of older Australians for the benefit of all ages and help combat ageism.
