IRT’s retirement housing for women to be completed by July

IRT's Jasmine Grove due for completion in July 2021

Construction of IRT Group’s collaborative retirement housing precinct for women over 55 is progressing to schedule with all eight villas and the community building already erected.

Set within the new Henry Brooks Estate at IRT Kanahooka retirement village in the Illawarra – approx 100 km south of Sydney, Jasmine Grove will provide a more affordable retirement living option for a group of eight single women.

IRT CEO, Patrick Reid says since announcing Jasmine Grove in September 2020, there have been more than 100 expressions of interest lodged by Illawarra women wanting to learn more about the collaborative housing precinct.

“We’ve been encouraged by the level of interest expressed by prospective Jasmine Grove residents. Offering a new choice for retired women living on their own that is purposefully designed to encourage social connection is really important to us as a community-owned not-for-profit organisation,” Mr Reid said.

Mr Reid explained that the concept was attractive to what is a growing number of women approaching retirement who see the value of living amongst a supportive community of women.

“We understand that senior women on their own sometimes have difficulty accessing appropriate retirement living options. Our aim with Jasmine Grove is to offer a new type of retirement living for women that is not only more affordable, but sustainable and connected.”

Partially funded by the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund, Jasmine Grove has been purposefully designed to encourage participation, sharing and a sense of community while offering residents their own private and secure homes. Eight private one-bedroom fully self-contained villas are set around a community building featuring a large shared kitchen, family-sized dining and lounge area where the residents can come together to prepare and share a meal together or simply relax and chat. Outdoors will include a BBQ area, additional storage and a shared vegetable garden and green space.

The villas are pet-friendly and include a full kitchen, dining area, lounge room, laundry, accessible bathroom, outdoor storage and parking space. Residents can also take full advantage of the amenities of the retirement village Henry Brooks Estate which surrounds Jasmine Grove including the clubhouse, pizza oven, giant outdoor chessboard and extensive landscaped walkways. Residents will also receive 50 hours of integrated IRT Home Care services within the first 12 months of residency.

IRT is still accepting expressions of interest from women over 55 to live at Jasmine Grove. To register visit www.irt.org.au/jasminegrove
