Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) laws have been enacted in New South Wales on 28 November 2023. This means VAD is now legal in all Australian States. A person can access it if they meet the eligibility criteria in their State. VAD is illegal in the Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory.

Residential aged care facilities must be prepared for what the VAD laws mean for them, their staff, and the residents in their care.
