Neil Samuel has been recognised as the first recipient of a Dementia Australia Honour, a new award acknowledging those who have made significant contributions to Dementia Australia.
Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe congratulated Mr Samuel, expressing gratitude for his years of commitment to people living with dementia, their families and carers.
“We are very fortunate to have had Neil’s expertise, guidance and support in various capacities for so many years and I am delighted to recognise his efforts officially through a Dementia Australia Honour,” Ms McCabe said.
“Throughout all his roles, Neil has led and contributed to effective governance, risk management, policy, oversight of strategic directions and financial sustainability.
“Neil has made an outstanding contribution that has without a doubt made a difference to the lives of all Australians who have been impacted by dementia.”
Neil previously served on the board of Alzheimer’s Australia Vic including as Honorary Secretary, Deputy Chair and Chair. In 2007, he was appointed to the Board of Alzheimer’s Australia Limited, now Dementia Australia Limited, where he served until 2019. Neil continues to serve on the Board of Dementia Australia Research Foundation and as a member of Dementia Australia’s Finance, Audit, Risk Management committee. Neil’s passion for Dementia Australia was born out of family experience with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mr Samuel said he was delighted to receive a Dementia Australia Honour and looked forward to continuing to support people impacted by dementia through his work.
“I am honoured to receive this award. My work with Dementia Australia to make a difference to the lives of people of all ages, living with all forms of dementia, their families and carers has been extremely rewarding,” Mr Samuel said.
“I look forward to continuing to support Dementia Australia and people impacted by dementia well into the future.”
Dementia Australia Honours acknowledge those who have contributed to shaping the organisation Dementia Australia is today. The new program upholds the decisions made by former Alzheimer’s Australia* colleagues to honour recipients of awards in the previously federated structure, as Honorary or Life Members, who have committed and made outstanding contributions to improving the lives of people living with dementia, their families and carers.
