Residents approve multimillion dollar leisure precinct

SwanCare will go ahead with a new multimillion dollar leisure precinct and community hub after receiving the green light from residents.

The project will see a major transformation and redevelopment of the current leisure amenities after more than 80 per cent of residents voted in favour of the new enhancements, which will be constructed in and around the existing outdoor bowling green.

The new facilities will include an indoor heated pool, gym, fitness rooms and recreation zones for wellness-based activities, a cultural centre, new club rooms, a residents’ lounge, multipurpose function spaces, a community pavilion and landscaped gardens.

SwanCare Chief Executive Officer Graham Francis says the landmark decision would ensure SwanCare remained a true leader in the aged and community care sector, for decades to come.

“This exciting transformation to our leisure amenities will provide great benefit and enjoyment for our current residents and will also provide for the long-term enjoyment of the many future generations of Western Australians that will call SwanCare home,” Mr Francis said.

“The redevelopment will see our central leisure precinct totally transformed while creatively engaging with our existing buildings such as Mavis Cleaver Court and Waminda Care Centre, and scenic walkways will also enable residents to move seamlessly and safely throughout this entire central activity and recreation area.”

“This is certainly an exciting time for SwanCare and our residents, in fact it’s the most ambitious development to ever be undertaken at the site since it was developed in 1961, which makes this milestone in our history even more special.”

The announcement of the new leisure precinct follows news that SwanCare will receive 120 new residential aged care bed places in this year’s Federal Government Aged Care Assessment Round (ACAR), which will be housed in a brand-new, purpose-built aged care facility, due for completion in 2019.
