A $9.3 million expansion at Resthaven Chiton Retirement Living was officially opened on 22 December, marking a major milestone for the coastal retirement village between Port Elliot and Victor Harbour in South Australia.
The opening was led by Mayor of Alexandrina Council Keith Parkes, alongside Resthaven Chief Executive Officer Darren Birbeck, Executive Manager Community Services & Retirement Living Mel Ottaway, and Resthaven Board President Mark Porter.
Residents of the village attended the celebration, joined by a range of guests including Brown Falconer Architects Managing Director Mario Dreosti, Kennett Builders Construction Manager Gavin Filmore, Resthaven Board Member Geri Malone, Chief Financial Officer Rob Quinton, senior managers Sarah Brown, Vanessa Clarke and Emmet O’Donnovan, members of the Retirement Living team, and prospective new residents.
Speaking at the event, Mr Birbeck said Resthaven was proud to officially open the new development, which includes 11 new retirement living units, community gardens and a dedicated caravan parking space.
“Resthaven is thrilled to officially open this development, which enhances the lifestyle and sustainability of our Chiton village while responding to strong demand for high-quality retirement living.”
The expansion builds on Resthaven Chiton’s reputation as a seven-star eco village, incorporating energy-saving design features and low-toxic materials to support healthy, environmentally responsible living.
The modern, architecturally designed two-bedroom-plus-study units were sold off the plan and feature a main bathroom with an ensuite or second toilet and powder room. Each home is equipped with a 5.28kVA solar system to help offset electricity costs, a solar hot water system and rainwater tanks.
Following the formal proceedings, residents and staff gathered to share a Christmas lunch, which also doubled as a celebration of Resthaven’s 90th anniversary.
“This is a particularly special celebration as we are not only opening this new development, but also marking the final celebrations of Resthaven’s 90th anniversary,” Mr Birbeck added.
Resthaven Chiton Retirement Living has previously received multiple awards for its high-quality homes and continues to be recognised for its commitment to sustainable, community-focused retirement living.
