Construction has begun on Stage 2 of the Uniting Edinglassie Emu Plains redevelopment, marking the next chapter in creating a contemporary and inclusive seniors’ living community in Western Sydney.
The new stage will deliver 147 independent living apartments, expanding on the award-winning residential aged care home delivered in Stage 1, which has been supporting residents since 2021.
Uniting NSW.ACT’s Director of Property and Housing, Simon Furness, said the project reflects the growing demand for seniors’ housing in the Nepean and lower Blue Mountains.
“This next stage will create an active, welcoming and caring community, where people can feel supported and age in their own homes with dignity. It perfectly complements our 100 residential aged care places already on site, giving residents flexibility as their needs change,” Mr Furness added.
Approved in May 2024, the development is being delivered in partnership with Growthbuilt, with completion expected in the first half of 2027.
The retirement living village will include:
- Flexible housing: 147 independent living apartments designed to meet a variety of needs.
- Vibrant community spaces: A clubroom for social events and shared activities.
- Shared amenities: Access to the existing café, hair and beauty salon, chapel, medical consulting rooms and multipurpose facilities in the adjacent aged care home.
- Tranquil outdoor areas: Landscaped gardens designed for relaxation and bird watching.
