WA tech start up receives global award for at-home medical treatments

Western Australian tech startup illuminance Solutions has been recognised with a global award for its successful cloud-based solution for Australian at-home medical service provider and medtech startup chemo@home.

illuminance Solutions with its AvantCare platform partnered with chemo@home to digitise its platform and create a reliable, all-in-one, technology-driven solution for its at-home treatment service for cancer patients across Australia, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, infusions, as well as medications for patients with other chronic diseases.

The cloud-based solution enables increased visibility of chemo@home field staff and equipment that supports more than 7,400 home-based patients nationally, as well as improves day-to-day scheduling functions and operational efficiency.

“AvantCare by illuminance Solutions Microsoft technology solution provided chemo@home with a platform that was more agile and responsive to their needs, particularly when it comes to managing a mobile workforce and medical equipment improved staff reporting, with the added capability of self-supporting health status,” said illuminance Solutions CEO Nilesh Makwana.

When the nation went into lockdown, chemo@home’s patient numbers increased by 125 per cent, with the company needing to scale rapidly from WA to servicing patients across Australia needing  increased at-home care.

“We could not have anticipated the impact this solution would have for chemo@home both for its business and its patients, as the company has transitioned into arguably an essential service during the pandemic,” said Mr Makwana.

illuminance Solutions introduced a full Microsoft Cloud Platform-based system to support both the technical requirements and business nature of chemo@home’s service delivery, catering to a geographically disperse patient base requiring extensive coordination of remote staff and medical equipment.

“The AvantCare solution transformed chemo@home’s digital processes. This was crucial to the delivery of our services when the COVID-19 pandemic emerged as we were able to rapidly onboard resources to cater to the significant rise in demand for at home-care for immunocompromised individuals,” said chemo@home Co-Founder and Company Director Lorna Cook.

illuminance Solutions AvantCare platform was recognised as a finalist in Microsoft’s Global 2020 Partner of the Year for Healthcare, ahead of more than 3,300 nominations from more than 100 countries worldwide.
