Annecto to close, impacting thousands of clients and staff

Annecto closure

Annecto, a long-standing Australian provider of aged care and disability services, has announced that it will cease operations by July 2025, citing financial challenges and shifts in service models within the sector. The closure will affect over 3,000 clients and approximately 1,000 staff members across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Established in the 1950s, Annecto has been a significant presence in community care, supporting elderly individuals, veterans, and people with disabilities to live independently. Despite reporting a modest surplus of $993,000 for the 2023–24 financial year, the organisation stated that ongoing financial pressures and changes in the aged care and disability sectors have made continued operations untenable.

Chair Colleen Furnaletto said that the decision was not made lightly and followed extensive stakeholder consultation. “We deeply appreciate the support of our community over all these years and the dedication of our staff and partners to high-quality support standards,” she said.

Annecto is working closely with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the National Disability Insurance Agency, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other key stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition for clients and staff to other trusted providers. The organisation has also engaged Ernst & Young to assist with the transition process.

Clients and their families have expressed concern over the sudden announcement, with some reporting they learned of the closure through media reports rather than direct communication from Annecto. The Department of Health has encouraged affected individuals to reach out for support during this transition period.

Annecto has set up a dedicated transition page on its website to provide information and assistance to clients and staff during this period and recently posted the below information on LinkedIn:

Annecto has been providing support services across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory for more than 70 years.
In July 2025, Annecto will cease all aged care and disability services.
This difficult decision was made after deliberation and consultation, which considered the service model shifts in the aged care and disability sectors, and the financial challenges facing the organisation.
Our focus now is working together to transition the people we support and the services they receive to other trusted providers who can continue delivering the support they need and deserve.
To the people we support, we understand that this is a challenging time and want to remind you that we are here to support you through this transition. We have sent you a letter in the mail about this announcement which you will receive shortly. In the meantime, please contact us for any concerns or questions on 1300 530 705 or email customersupport@annecto.org.au.
