Andrew Thorburn

Our annual end-of-year Q&A series offers leaders and influencers in aged care the chance to share their views and expectations for the year ahead. Submissions can be sent to news@insideageing.com.au

Q1: What were your highlights for 2024?

Joining HammondCare in June has been amazing. It is a privilege to work for an independent Christian charity that is passionate about improving the quality of life for people in need. The people are so committed.

The people we serve—our clients, residents, and patients—drive and inspire us daily. Since arriving, I have been able to visit our sites and attend home care visits with our frontline people—it is a truly humbling experience.

Q2: What are you most looking forward to in 2025?

We are looking forward to implementing our Next Chapter strategy, to lead in complex care nationally, specialising in dementia and palliative care.

Editor: HammondCare’s “Next Chapter” strategy aims to lead in complex care nationally, specialising in dementia and palliative care guided by its Mission in Action to serve older people with complex care needs, regardless of their circumstances.

It will be a big year too with more of the Commonwealth’s new aged care reforms to land, and we need to manage that well. I am excited too about the potential for technology to transform care, but still with a continuing focus on human care delivery.

Q3. What books will you be reading over the summer holiday break?

Every Good Endeavour by Timothy Keller

Co-intelligence by Ethan Mollick

An Everyone Story by Duncan McKellar

I won’t stop there, but they’re my three books to start with…

Our end-of-year Q&A series is supported by Altura Learning, dedicated to helping Australian aged care providers enhance workforce skills and drive business growth.
