End-of-year CEO Q&As: Anne McCormack – mecwacare

Anne McCormack, CEO at mecwacare

Our annual end-of-year Q&A series offers leaders and influencers in aged care the chance to share their views and expectations for the year ahead. Submissions can be sent to news@insideageing.com.au

What were your highlights for 2024?

At the aged care sector level, we passed the bill. This is a huge achievement, and whilst there is still much to be defined, hashed out and implemented, it is a great start for some positive change. It heralds the next era of aged care in Australia for a long time to come, with the last act having come into being in 1999.

Organisationally, we have implemented our digital transformation program – mcare360. This is a significant investment in technology, data and effectiveness for mewacare clients, it is energising, and exciting and will set us up well for the future. Our employee engagement survey was also conducted this year, with approximately 85% of our 3,500-strong workforce participating, and 79% of employees recommending mecwacare as a great place to work.

What are you most looking forward to in 2025?

I am most looking forward to supporting the continued growth of mecwacare in 2025. This is not for reasons of ego or self-interest, but rather the importance of growth of impact and services to our community. Watching our amazing leaders grow and develop and supporting them to deliver great outcomes for our clients is something I really enjoy and is beneficial to all those who rely on our services.

What books will you be reading over the summer holiday break?

This summer break, I will be reading ‘The Forgotten Highlander’, a true account of a Scottish soldier’s wartime experience. This relates back to my origins as I was born and raised in Scotland!

My husband and I are also planning on an Italian holiday during the next European summer, so a large portion of my reading will be on Italy’s best destinations.

Our end-of-year Q&A series is supported by Altura Learning, dedicated to helping Australian aged care providers enhance workforce skills and drive business growth.
