Our annual end-of-year Q&A series provides leaders and influencers in aged care with an opportunity to share their insights and expectations for the year ahead. This marks our final post in the 2024 series – thank you to everyone who contributed as we look forward to what promises to be a signficant year for the sector.
What were your highlights for 2024?
2024 was pivotal for me personally and professionally, marking my transition into the aged care sector after years of early childhood at Goodstart Early Learning. Across both sectors, I’ve seen a consistent challenge: how do we help people entering the care sector with foundational skills, grow their capability to deliver exceptional care?
The passage of the Aged Care Reform Act through the Senate was undoubtedly the standout moment of 2024. This legislation goes far beyond regulatory changes—it represents a complete rethink of how we care for our ageing population. It highlights the urgent need for 110,000 additional workers by 2030. It challenges the sector to create meaningful career pathways, integrate technical training with emotional intelligence, and build environments that attract and retain care workers.
At Altura Learning, we achieved much in 2024, including new appointments in our leadership team, delivering Strengthening Standards resources in Altura’s renowned
video format, and a 2025 course roadmap. We also enhanced customer engagement
through lunch-and-learn sessions and webinars, demonstrating our commitment to
supporting the evolving sector.
On a personal level, I’ve enjoyed the move from Melbourne to Sydney. I’ve met new people, built connections, and enjoyed everything Sydney has to offer…
What are you most looking forward to in 2025?
I’m excited about our transformative approach to aged care workforce development in 2025. Following the Aged Care Reform Act, we’re rolling out innovative, clinically focused training that redefines quality care by equipping staff with the skills and confidence to meet the sector’s evolving needs.
We’re building genuine capability at scale, creating comprehensive learning ecosystems that cultivate compassionate professionals. We focus on developing sustainable career pathways that attract and retain top talent.
What books will you be reading over the summer holiday break?
Our Board Chair, Rob Lourey, gave me a copy of The Chairman’s Lounge by Joe Aston, which I’ve started reading, and it has already offered an unfiltered look at leadership, power, and influence. With my enrolment in the AICD course commencing in January, this summer’s reading list is shaping up to be decidedly non-fiction.
