Boutique interior design leader Meli Studio is set to merge with national design firm WMK from 1 September 2025, in a move that will expand both firms’ capabilities and deliver integrated design solutions across more sectors.
Founded and led by former registered nurse and boutique hotel marketing leader Julie Ockerby, Meli Studio has spent more than 15 years creating award-winning spaces in boutique hospitality, luxury residential, retirement living, and aged care. The studio is renowned for its human-centred design approach, focusing on enhancing lives, telling stories, and delivering tangible outcomes.
Under the merger, Meli Studio’s creative team will transition to WMK, which offers architecture, strategic masterplanning, and project delivery services nationally. Ms Ockerby will take on the role of Director, Client Relationships & Strategy at WMK.
“This merger gives our clients access to a broader platform, deeper resources, and a future-facing team — without losing the values, creativity, and partnerships that have always defined us.”

WMK Managing Director Greg Barnett said the partnership aligns perfectly with the firm’s vision.
“Julie’s leadership and vision for design have had a transformative impact on the sectors she’s worked in. Her human-centred approach makes her and her team an ideal fit for WMK. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of design, transforming spaces to meet the evolving needs of our clients and the sectors they serve,” Mr Barnett shared.
The merger is designed to strengthen WMK’s position as a multidisciplinary design firm, expanding its reach across hospitality, residential, and specialist care environments, while maintaining the personalised service and design ethos that have defined Meli Studio.
