The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) has released its Consultation Paper on the Pricing Framework for Australian Residential Aged Care Services 2026–27, inviting all stakeholders to contribute to shaping the future of aged care pricing in Australia.
The consultation seeks input from a broad cross-section of the community, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, regional and remote providers, and organisations delivering services under the Multi-Purpose Services Program (MPSP) and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFACP). Residents, families, carers, and representatives of those using aged care services are also strongly encouraged to participate.
The paper outlines several key focus areas, including IHACPA’s cost collection processes, assessments of the MPSP and NATSIFACP funding models, residential aged care supplements, and required hotel services. Stakeholders are welcome to provide feedback on these topics, along with any other aspects of residential and respite aged care pricing.
The online consultation includes five key questions, but participants can choose to answer only those that are relevant to them. Responses backed by examples or evidence are encouraged to help inform IHACPA’s recommendations.
IHACPA is also gathering background information from respondents, including their role and perspective, to better understand and contextualise submissions. Participants are asked to include their name and contact details in case further clarification is needed.
Feedback collected through this consultation will directly inform the 2026–27 Pricing Framework and IHACPA’s pricing advice to the Australian Government. This framework underpins a fair, transparent, and data-driven approach to residential aged care pricing, ensuring the system remains responsive to the needs of all Australians.
