Resthaven, a South Australian not-for-profit aged care provider, recently welcomed five international nurses as part of its commitment to bringing skilled overseas workers into its workforce. These nurses, who relocated from various countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States, recently completed a seven-day intensive onboarding program to help them adjust to Resthaven’s practices, gain insight into the Australian healthcare context, and learn emergency response protocols.
Santhy Plamkoottathil Pappen, Swapna George, and Eseosa Olu-tobi Matiminu have joined the team at Resthaven Mount Gambier, each bringing unique perspectives and motivations for their move.
Santhy, who previously worked in the UK, said, “I trust Resthaven. My kids want to explore Australia, and Australia is known for work/life balance – so I thought ‘why not.’”
Swapna, from Ireland, was drawn by the promise of a new life and Australia’s warm weather. “I think my children will have a better life here in Australia,” she said.
Eseosa, originally from Africa and most recently based in the United States, is eager to experience Australia’s unique culture and landscape, which she notes reminds her of her village in Africa.
At Resthaven Port Elliot, Princy Bobby and Jasmin John have joined the team. Princy, who moved from England, cited career progression opportunities and quality of life as key reasons for her relocation. “We are enjoying the good weather and the housing – it’s more spacious than in England!” she said.
For Jasmin, reuniting her family was the top priority. “We moved to Australia to reunite our family,” she shared, excited to live in the same country as her son, who has been studying at UniSA.
With over 3,000 employees from 93 different countries, Resthaven serves people across South Australia, including in metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula.
