Mark Sheldon-Stemm, CEO of Valleyview Residence in Collie, Western Australia, is at the forefront of a new aged care initiative designed to transform the quality of care for residents. In collaboration with Person Centred Software, the University of Canberra, and Customer Feedback Systems (CFS), Mr Sheldon-Stemm is spearheading the development of the Aged Care Electronic Data & Information Tool (ACEDIT), a cutting-edge digital alert system funded by Aged Care Research & Industry Innovation Australia (ARIIA)
The ACEDIT project harnesses existing data systems to enhance care delivery, improve health outcomes, and reduce adverse events in aged care. While care management systems capture essential information, much of this data is often gathered for compliance purposes rather than directly addressing residents’ care needs. ACEDIT aims to bridge this gap by focusing on critical health indicators such as hydration, nutrition, and toileting to monitor residents’ changing conditions better.
Drawing on global expertise, including insights from the University of Canberra’s nursing faculty, the project has developed the ACEDIT dashboard. This intuitive platform consolidates vital information from Person Centred Software’s clinical care system (mCare), to offer a streamlined, actionable overview of residents’ health.
One significant focus of the initiative is addressing inconsistencies in documentation, such as varying water intake records. Nursing staff can identify and resolve issues proactively by extracting hydration data from mCare and displaying trends on the ACEDIT dashboard. This innovative approach not only ensures timely interventions but also enhances managerial oversight, enabling staff to deliver effective and consistent care.
Speaking about the project’s potential impact, Mr Sheldon-Stemm shared, “This project aims to revolutionise and elevate the standards in aged care on a national and international scale, a pioneering effort not yet seen within the industry. By leveraging technology and data-driven insights, we are committed to enhancing the wellbeing of residents and empowering our staff to deliver exceptional care consistently.”
The ACEDIT system is set to empower aged care staff, ensuring residents receive optimal care while enabling providers to meet evolving clinical requirements effectively.
