HammondCare’s Dementia Centre is hosting a two-day Dementia Design School in Caboolture, Queensland, on October 9-10, focusing on creating environments that enhance the lives of people living with dementia. This event will cover the new National Aged Care Design Principles and Guidelines, showcasing practical tools to assess and improve aged care spaces.

Participants will tour NewDirection Care Bellmere, a community designed with dementia-friendly principles, featuring residential houses, green spaces, and a town centre.

The collaboration between HammondCare and NewDirection Care highlights how good design can foster independence and quality of life for aged care residents.

“Dementia-enabling design is about more than those living with dementia. It’s about creating environments that support a wide range of needs.”

Natasha Chadwick, Managing Director, NewDirection Care

The event will provide valuable insights into the transformative impact of dementia-enabling design and showcase the innovative MICRO TOWN® model, which redefines traditional aged care environments.

Angela Raguz, General Manager of The Dementia Centre, highlights the importance of thoughtful design in addressing cognitive and sensory impairments, stating that even small changes can significantly improve residents’ experiences.
