Government announces new chair and members of National Aged Care Advisory Council

The Albanese Government has appointed a new Chair and several new members to the National Aged Care Advisory Council.

Professor Sue Gordon takes on the role of Chair, bringing extensive expertise from her tenure as Research Director at Aged Care Research and Industry Innovation Australia (ARIIA). Her leadership is expected to provide valuable direction as the Council continues to shape the future of aged care in Australia.

Joining Professor Gordon as new members are:


• Professor Tanya Buchanan, CEO of Dementia Australia

• Associate Professor Mark Yates, Geriatrician at Ballarat Health Services

• Charles Moore, CEO of BaptistCare

• Peter Doukas OAM, Chair of the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia (FECCA)

Returning members include Anne Burgess AM, Craig Gear OAM, and Dr Sandra Iuliano, who will continue their contributions to the Council’s important work.

The National Aged Care Advisory Council plays a crucial role in advising the government on key aged care matters, including:

• Implementing aged care reforms

• Enhancing service delivery and accessibility

• Strengthening provider and workforce capability

The Council was established in response to Recommendation 7 of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and continues to guide sector improvements to ensure quality care for older Australians.
