A new $300 million integrated health campus, combining world-class aged care, palliative care, dementia support, and seniors’ living, has been announced for Northern Sydney.
HammondCare Greenwich will transform the existing Greenwich Hospital site into a centre of excellence for the complex care of older people, offering a new sub-acute hospital, aged care facilities, and independent seniors’ apartments designed to support ageing in place.
Announced today by HammondCare CEO Andrew Thorburn, alongside Northern Sydney Local Health District CEO Associate Professor Anthony Schembri AM, Lane Cove Mayor Merri Southwood, and Member for Lane Cove Anthony Roberts, the development will feature specialist inpatient and outpatient palliative care, dementia care, mental health services, and a research hub known as Hammond Innovations.
“HammondCare Greenwich will be our flagship — a place where world-class care and innovation come together to meet the challenges of an ageing nation.”

Australia’s ageing population is projected to double the number of people over 65 within 40 years, with the number of people aged over 85 expected to more than triple. HammondCare Greenwich is designed to meet that growing need, combining clinical excellence with compassionate, home-like environments.
The redevelopment will include:
- 30 palliative care beds
- 20 older persons’ mental health beds
- 45 dementia-specific residential aged care beds
- 20 health suites
- A health hub with a pharmacy, café, gym, hydrotherapy pool, and chapel
- Two seniors living buildings offering 89 apartments
Heritage-listed Pallister House will become the headquarters for Hammond Innovations, a new initiative harnessing research, design, technology, and cross-sector partnerships to transform aged care delivery.
Residents have already expressed enthusiasm for the project. Helen Walker, 80, who cares for her husband Fred, 85, who lives with dementia, said the proposed seniors’ apartments would make a real difference.
“There is a need for this type of independent apartment living for people at our stage in life. This would suit our needs,” Mrs Walker added.
Existing services and staff will be temporarily relocated during construction, with completion expected in 2029.
