Harbison Burradoo, located in the NSW Southern Highlands, is set to begin Stage 2 of its redevelopment in 2025. This is backed by a $27.5 million Federal Government grant—the largest awarded in the latest round of the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP).
The funding will support the construction of a state-of-the-art 72-bed residential aged care facility and a dementia respite service, replacing a hostel built in the 1950s that has been closed since 2023.
The project will create over 50 full-time equivalent skilled local jobs, expand access to organized healthcare, and address the critical shortage of residential aged care in the super-ageing community.
Harbison has served the Southern Highlands for over 60 years. Stage 1 of its master plan, a residential dementia care service, opened in 2020 and received the Excellence in Aged Care award from the Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW in 2021.
“Stage 2 is the next step in our 10-year plan, Harbison 2034, to meet the needs of older people and people living with dementia, supporting healthy, productive, longer lives,” added Mr Cochran.
The ACCAP funding round allocated $250 million for 52 projects to enhance aged care facilities in regional, rural, and remote areas.
