Prof Tanya Buchanan announced as CEO of Dementia Australia

Dementia Australia has announced Professor Tanya Buchanan as its incoming CEO, succeeding Maree McCabe AM, who led the organisation for 13 years.

In 2021, Maree McCabe AM was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to people living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and to the aged care sector, and included in the COVID-19 Honour Roll for contribution in support of Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently CEO of Cancer Council Australia, Prof Buchanan will assume the role in May.

Prof Buchanan’s background includes nursing, an MBA in Health Services, and extensive experience in health, academia, and the voluntary sector. She has received notable awards for her contributions to public health and social impact.

Dementia Australia provides trusted information, support services, and advocacy for the more than 421,000 Australians living with dementia and their caregivers.
