The government has appointed Ms Treasure Jennings as Australia’s new Complaints Commissioner, commencing 1 November 2025, replacing Louise Macleod, who spent 18 months in the role.

The appointment marks a key step in the transition to a high-quality, respectful and sustainable aged care system that places older Australians at the centre of their care.

Under the new Aged Care Act, the Complaints Commissioner will play a vital role in the regulatory and governance framework, helping older people, their families and carers understand how to make complaints, and ensuring those complaints are managed and resolved fairly.

Ms Jennings brings more than 20 years of experience in management and senior leadership roles, notably as the joint Mental Health Complaints Commissioner and Disability Services Commissioner, and as a former Public Transport Ombudsman.

She has been a strong advocate for elevating the rights of consumers, carers and families.

OPAN CEO Craig Gear said the appointment is a significant milestone in fostering a fairer and safer sector.

“Ms Treasure brings a wealth of invaluable experience and a track record of leading consumer complaints and dispute resolution across the public and private sectors”

In her new role, Ms Jennings will work alongside Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner Liz Hefren-Webb to strengthen accountability, respond to service failures and empower older Australians.
