Year-end interviews with aged care leaders: John Frame – Grandton

John Frame, Chairperson, Grandton Limited

As part of our end-of-year reporting, Inside Ageing is currently asking CEOs and leaders from across the aged care and retirement living space for their views on the year that just was and expectations for 2024. If you would like to share your views email our news desk: news@insideageing.com.au

What was your highlight/s for 2023?

In the Retirement Village and Aged Care sector: Seeing the Grandton model that I have envisioned for over a decade come to life as Grandton Applecross emerged from the ground.

To see my reimagined seniors living model start its journey was a major highlight given it’s been 6 years this year-end since I quit working for aged care groups to form Grandton Limited and explore if I could bring the vision to reality.

Grandton Applecross (Perth) is due for completion in April 2024.

On a personal level: Watching my children’s continued successes and their children develop their personalities.

What are you most looking forward to in 2024?

In the Retirement Village and Aged Care sector: Grandton Applecross, the 15-storey retirement village with an in-house private care suite and a menu of personal and clinical services to facilitate seniors to remain in their strata-owned adaptable apartments and enjoy a better quality of life in a vibrant community setting, will complete development in April 2024. This will be a special moment for me, I think.

The potential to wrap up another Grandton development next year will also be a highlight event.

On a personal level: Family time and quality time with close friends.

What books will you be reading over the summer holiday break?

You may know I am a published author of RETRIBUTION – a historical fiction novel set during the Rhodesian Civil War.

The Rhodesian Civil War (1966-1979) – a history book.

A Desert Rat Story – a history of my father’s time in North Africa during WWI.

Before becoming a Chartered Accountant, I was in the Rhodesian Air Force during the conflict, hence my interest in the topics of these books.

I am partway through the sequel to RETRIBUTION. I hope to complete the manuscript over the long break.

I like Ken Follett so will read the two books on my desk.
