Year-end interviews with aged care leaders: Russell Egan – Superior Care Group

Russell Egan, Chief Executive Officer, Superior Care Group

As part of our end-of-year reporting, Inside Ageing is currently asking CEOs and leaders from across the aged care and retirement living space for their views on the year that just was and expectations for 2024. If you would like to share your views email our news desk: news@insideageing.com.au

Q1. What was your highlight/s for 2023?

My highlight for 2023 was the implementation of the 15% pay rise for most aged care workers.  This is a long overdue recognition of the additional skills required to work in aged care and has been a catalyst for interest in personal care as a career.  It is a shame that this pay increase did not extend to hotel, administrative, allied and maintenance workers – and our workers let me know their frustrations!

Q2. What are you most looking forward to in 2024?

I am looking forward to the outcome of the government aged care pricing taskforce.  I am hopeful that government policy will act on the sector’s dwindling viability and develop a long-term policy for greater consumer contribution.

Q3. What books will you be reading over the summer holiday break?

I will be reading London and the 17th Century, by Margarette Lincoln, and Madness of Crowds, by Douglas Murray.
